Sant Joan Barcelona Motion Graphics Video Project
I want to share the making of this animation, the video strategy, and the results of this animated gif I made as a personal project for the Sant Joan event in Barcelona.
My purpose was to create an animated gif of how I felt towards Sant Joan, but more importantly, create something relevant for people to engage, connect with, and share with others to spread awareness of Motion Arts Media instagram page.
I decided to make an animated gif that users could use in messenger apps, Facebook, Instagram, and other social channels. I added @motionartsmedia in the animation and uploaded this animation in Giphy to be used as gif and sticker to have access to Instagram and Facebook story users.
With this people could use the gif through any platform that supports Giphy. A great way to get people involved, especially on Instagram. Sant Joan is a popular event in Spain so this was a great opportunity.
Key Performance Indicators
Currently Giphy has no way for users to go directly to your website or anywhere when using the gif. Instead I creatively added @motionartsmedia to the animation to not make it too distracting for users. This would help spread awareness, and those that were more interested in our animations would look us up. So my main indicator for success were keeping watch on Giphy views and instagram follows.
Making The Sant Joan Animation
I focused on giving this animation a feeling of the summer in Barcelona. So to make the setting I decided to sketch a small Design of 4 major buildings that represent Barcelona.
During this holiday there are 3 things to know. It’s the longest day of the year, there is music, parties, and fireworks everywhere. This is the other part of the animation I wanted people to connect with. So to represent the music I used these sound bars within each of the buildings in the skyline while also changing the color of each building and sound bar.
Next I added a lot of fireworks. This is a very big case during Sant Joan. Many of the neighborhoods compete against each other trying to shoot the best fireworks in their area.
I made this to connect with people to to influence others to share it to increase awareness of Motion Arts Media instagram page.I prepared the motion graphics animation, uploaded the visual as a sticker to our Giphy account, and kept watch over the KPI's.
This animated gif garnered over 1 million views that day according to Giphy. with an increase of followers on Instagram throughout the week of close to 300 followers. That week we also gained traffic to the website from our instagram channel.
Now the Barcelona gif is constantly and steadily growing in Giphy increasing followers and traffic to our website day by day.
People love to share quality content that is relevant to what is going on, how they feel, and has meaning or delivers a message in a creative way. This is especially important when making gifs. This was a proven way to increase awareness and engagements using visual content that your viewers and targets would find useful and become interested in your brand.
